Trapdoor spiders are a kind of spider that belong to different families, such as Idiopidae, Actinopodidae, Ctenizidae, Migidae, and Cyrtaucheniidae. They have a clever way of making nests in the soil and protecting them with a silk door that can open and shut.
The spiders use their door to surprise insects that walk near their nest. They can open the door fast and grab their prey. Some trapdoor spider species do not make a door for their nest but are still called trapdoor spiders.
